Shielding gas evacuation
Shielding gas purging replaces the surrounding atmosphere with inert gas to prevent oxygen and nitrogen reactions. This protects the workpiece from corrosion and improves weld quality.
Physicochemical Mechanism of Action
Shielding gas evacuation replaces the surrounding atmosphere with an inert gas such as argon or helium. This prevents oxygen and nitrogen from coming into contact with the metal, avoiding corrosion and unwanted reactions.
Metallurgical Relevance & Welding Risks
Without shielding gas evacuation, oxygen and nitrogen reactions can lead to corrosion and uneven weld seams. This can cause cracks, deformation, and low strength in the final product.
Workshop Practice & Procedures
To ensure effective shielding gas evacuation, you must feed the inert gas into the welding area while evacuating the surrounding atmosphere. The pressure difference should be at least 20 hPa. If the oxygen content in the welding gas rises, adjust or increase the evacuation immediately.
