Gas Tungsten Arc Welding
A welding process utilizing a non-consumable tungsten rod as an electrode while an inert gas shields the weld pool from atmospheric contamination. The method guarantees superior crack and corrosion resistance of the joint.
In TIG welding, the tungsten electrode doesn't melt away; it's only there for the arc. The shielding gas (argon or helium) keeps oxygen away from the weld pool, otherwise the weld burns and becomes porous. If you contaminate the electrode or shut off the gas too early, you'll get a bad, oxidized weld. Align the electrode properly and ensure a steady gas flow, then the part will be fine.
