UV-A Blacklight Lamp

A black light lamp is a long-wave UV source used to excite fluorescent magnetic particles in inspection.

Physicochemical Mechanism of Action

The black light lamp produces long-wave ultraviolet light (UV-A), which excites the magnetic powder and makes it glow flickering. This light has a wavelength of about 320 to 400 nanometers.

Metallurgical Relevance & Welding Risks

Using the black light lamp during inspections allows visual detection of flaws such as cracks, pores, or inadequate weld seams. It is important not to direct the light directly at skin or eyes, as it can be harmful.

Workshop Practice & Action Instructions

Use the black light lamp in a shielded environment and make sure the light protection for eyes and skin is maintained. Ensure that the test object is clean and that no shimmer or reflections impair the readability of the results.
