Welding Position
The spatial orientation of the weld and the workpiece affects the flow of the weld pool and places specific demands on the welder.
Physical-Chemical Mechanism of Action
The welding position refers to the location of the weld relative to the workpiece. An optimal position ensures that the weld pool is evenly distributed and the liquid can flow well. An uneven weld pool can lead to porosity or non-uniform hardness.
Metallurgical Relevance & Risks in Welding
A poor welding position can lead to the following problems: porosity, non-uniform hardness distribution, lack of fusion, or distortion of the workpiece. This increases the likelihood of cracks and reduces the service life of the joint.
Workshop Practice & Instructions
Make sure the welding torch is aligned perpendicular to the workpiece. Use a straight line as a guide. Keep the welding nozzle centered over the workpiece and move it slowly from one end to the other. Regularly check the fluidity of the weld pool and correct the position if necessary.
