Welding Procedure Specification
A detailed and qualified instruction setting all required parameters for production welding. It ensures that joints are produced reproducibly with the specified quality.
The welding procedure specification (WPS) determines how much heat you put into the material and how fast it cools down afterwards. If you don't follow it, the cooling time will be off. If it gets too cold too quickly, the structure becomes hard and crack-sensitive. If you cool too slowly, the grain coarsens and toughness suffers.
The WPS must always be available at the work station. Before welding, check material, filler, current type, and preheating. What you actually set, you write in the protocol. If you have to deviate from the specification, that's not just a quick fix – it requires a new qualification. And the machine must be calibrated so that the value you set actually reaches the electrode.
