Welding pickling paste

Welding pickling paste is an acid-based cleaning agent for removing heat tint and chromium depletion on stainless steels after welding. It restores the passive protective layer of the material.

Physical-Chemical Mechanism of Action

Welding pickling pastes are acid solutions that remove heat tint and chromium depletion from the surface of stainless steels through chemical reactions. They react with the metal ions to dissolve them and carry them away from the material.

Metallurgical Relevance & Welding Risks

The use of welding pickling pastes is crucial to keep the steel surface clean and free from depletion after welding. Without proper cleaning, the material can become susceptible to corrosion or produce a poor weld. However, incorrect application or storing the paste for too long can damage the surface or cause the steel to rust.

Workshop Practice & Instructions

Use welding pickling paste in a closed container and let it work on the cleaned parts. The application time is usually 5-10 minutes. After cleaning, the material must be wiped thoroughly to remove any acid residue. Make sure the paste is stored correctly and not kept too long to avoid damage to the steel.
