Welding
Permanently joining materials using heat, pressure, or both – with or without filler metal.
Welding joins two workpieces permanently. You apply heat or pressure at the joint until the materials bond firmly. Usually a filler metal melts in as well and fills the gap. There are many processes – arc, gas flame, laser, or pressure alone. The key is that base metal and filler match, otherwise the weld cracks.
