Welding Auxiliary Redrying

A thermal treatment process for stick electrodes or fluxes at elevated temperatures to reduce capillary-bound moisture levels.

Re-drying is mandatory when welding consumables have absorbed moisture – you often notice this from the packaging or when the weld becomes porous. Moist material releases hydrogen during welding, causing pores in the weld and degrading mechanical properties. You dry the material in an oven or drying cabinet until it is free-flowing and moisture-free again. Make sure not to exceed the drying temperature specified by the manufacturer, otherwise you will damage the coating or flux. After drying, store the material dry and airtight, then you won't have issues with weld quality.
