Welding Booth Extraction Wall
The welding booth extraction wall is a horizontal suction surface that pulls welding fume away from the welder's breathing zone, keeping the work area clean.
Physical-Chemical Mechanism of Action
The fume extraction wall in a welding booth consists of a horizontal grate or membrane that absorbs the welding fume and other dust particles. The airflow through the booth ensures that the fume is delivered horizontally over the extraction wall and is captured there.
Metallurgical Relevance & Welding Risks
Without an effective extraction wall, welding fume can reach the welder's breathing zone, causing health problems. Additionally, the fume can contaminate tools and components, leading to quality issues. Insufficient extraction can also overload the weld pool and degrade air quality.
Workshop Practice & Instructions
The extraction wall should be positioned to capture most of the fume. The airflow in the booth should be designed so that fume is carried horizontally to the extraction wall. A good rule is to have the extraction wall at least 10 cm above the work station and an area of at least 2 m² per welder. The extraction wall should be cleaned regularly to maintain its effectiveness.
