Weld Joint Residual Stress Relief
The targeted reduction of internal stresses through thermal annealing processes or mechanical methods post-welding to ensure dimensional stability and prevent stress corrosion cracking. Plastic deformations thereby relax.
After welding, stress builds up in the component. You need to relieve it, otherwise the part will crack or warp later. You do this either thermally, by controlled heating, or mechanically, e.g., by straightening or upsetting. Important: don't overdo the material and keep the right sequence, otherwise you'll ruin the weld.
