Weld Defect Analysis

Weld defect analysis is a systematic investigation of irregularities in the structure or on the surface to identify causes such as parameter errors or material defects.

Physicochemical mechanism of action

Welding seam defect analysis involves the precise examination of weld defects to determine their causes. This can be done through microscopic analysis or chemical testing.

Metallurgical relevance & risks in welding

Incorrect parameters or material defects can lead to various defects such as porosity, cracks, or insufficient toughness. A detailed defect analysis is necessary to identify the causes and take measures to improve the welding process.

Workshop practice & instructions

Perform a careful visual inspection and use microscopic analysis to examine the structure of the weld. Identify possible defects such as pores or cracks, and note the exact location and size of these defects. Use chemical tests to determine material defects or insufficient deoxidation. Based on the results, you can adjust welding parameters or take other measures to improve weld quality.
