Weld Seam Contour Grinding
Weld grinding is the precise removal of reinforcement and notches on welds to optimize force flow and reduce stress peaks. It is an essential pre- or intermediate step before peening.
Physicochemical Working Principle
Weld seam blending removes mechanical reinforcements and notches on the weld. This improves surface continuity and reduces stress concentrations that could lead to cracks.
Metallurgical Relevance & Welding Risks
Inaccurate blending can lead to uneven stresses, resulting in cracks and distortion in the material. A finely blended seam improves toughness and mechanical behavior of the weld.
Workshop Practice & Instructions
Use a smooth, sharp blending disc with the appropriate thickness. Start at the center of the seam and work symmetrically outward. Blend down the reinforcements to a smooth surface. Ensure no notches or uneven removal remain.
