Weld Quality Class Specification
Weld quality class assignment defines permissible discontinuities in welded joints based on the loading conditions. Class I is for static loads, Class II for dynamic loads.
Physical-Chemical Mechanism of Action
The quality grades determine how much a weld can be stressed without failing. The classification takes into account the type of loading (static or dynamic) and the allowed deviations in deformation and hardness.
Metallurgical Relevance & Risks in Welding
Setting a quality grade too low can result in insufficient mechanical performance, which under high loads can lead to cracks or failure of the joint. Setting it too high increases costs and can cause unnecessary restrictions.
Workshop Practice & Instructions
Choose the correct quality grade based on the expected loading of the weld. Class I for static loads (e.g., pipe connections), Class II for dynamic loads (e.g., machine parts). Make sure the welding parameters (temperature, time) are set to achieve the desired quality grade.
