Weld seam passivation liquid
Weld seam passivation solution speeds up the formation of a chromium oxide layer on steels to prevent corrosion. It works after pickling and forms a thin protective layer.
Physical-Chemical Mechanism of Action
The liquid contains chemical additives such as passivating agents that react with the steel to form a thin chromium oxide layer. This layer protects the steel against further oxidation and corrosion.
Metallurgical Relevance & Risks in Welding
Without passivating liquid, the weld can corrode slowly after pickling, which can lead to cracks and loss of strength. The liquid prevents this process by rapidly forming the protective layer.
Workshop Practice & Instructions
Use the passivating liquid immediately after pickling, before the steel cools down. The liquid should be provided in a dedicated container and applied directly to the weld. Make sure the liquid dries completely before the steel is further processed.
