Weld Sampling Plan
A plan for selecting and positioning test specimens in the weld seam to check mechanical properties.
Physical-Chemical Mechanism of Action
The weld sampling plan specifies where and how many samples are to be taken from the weld. This is important to ensure that the testing is representative of the entire weld.
Metallurgical Relevance & Risks in Welding
An inadequate sampling plan can lead to incorrect results. For instance, missing or wrongly positioned specimens may overlook important defects or not correctly reflect the actual mechanical properties. This can lead to safety issues and production failures.
Workshop Practice & Instructions
1. Type of specimens: Use standardized test specimens such as Charpy or tensile specimens.
2. Number of specimens: Take at least 3 specimens per weld, depending on the complexity and length of the joint.
3. Sampling locations: Position the specimens at different points along the weld, including the start and end points and the middle.
4. Spacing between specimens: Maintain a minimum distance of 10 cm between individual specimens.
5. Documentation: Record the exact location of each specimen and store the results for traceable documentation.
