Weld Repair Procedure
Weld seam repair procedure is a pre-ordered method for correct grinding out and rewelding of defective weld seams to ensure the safety and durability of the parts.
Physical-Chemical Mechanism of Action
The weld repair process aims to remove defective or unacceptable welds and rejoin the parts. This is done by removing the defective material and applying a new welding process under strict control of process parameters.
Metallurgical Relevance & Welding Risks
Incorrect or incomplete grinding can lead to insufficient removal of defective material, which can cause recurring defects. Excessive hardness or uneven microstructure can result from incorrect welding parameters and affect mechanical strength.
Workshop Practice & Action Guidelines
1. Grinding: Use a fine-polished grinding cylinder or a Dremel with a fine polishing tip to remove the defective material. Ensure the surface is smooth and free of cracks.
2. Cleaning: Use a cleaning agent like acetone or isopropanol to clean the ground area and remove any contaminants.
3. Rewelding: Perform the welding procedure according to material and part specifications. Pay attention to correct temperature, time, and pressure values. Use a suitable welding process (e.g., MIG, TIG) and high-quality shielding.
4. Inspection: Check the rewelded joint for hardness, cracks, and visual quality. Use a hardness tester or microscopy to inspect the microstructure.
