Weld Root Protection
Device or measure for introducing backing gas to the rear of the component to prevent oxidation of the root weld.
The root protection prevents oxygen from reaching the back of the weld during welding. For this, you introduce a purging gas that shields the root and avoids oxidation. Without protection, the root burns, pores form, and the weld becomes cracked and leaky. Let the gas run before igniting to completely displace the air, and keep the gas flow constant during welding. Make sure the protection remains active until the weld cools down, otherwise the root will oxidize afterwards.
