Weld Quality

Weld quality denotes the freedom from defects in a welded joint regarding geometric irregularities and internal flaws. It is classified into standardized evaluation groups.

Physico-chemical mechanism

Weld quality is a measure of the quality of a welded joint. It considers geometric aspects like the appearance of the weld and internal flaws such as porosity or distortion.

Metallurgical relevance & risks when welding

Poor weld quality leads to defective components that can fail under mechanical load. Porosity and distortion can cause cracks, which compromises the safety of the joint.

Workshop practice & instructions

To ensure high weld quality, welding parameters must be precisely maintained. This includes proper temperature, suitable filler material, and correct cooling steps. If quality issues arise, check and adjust the parameters.
