Weld cladding
Weld cladding is the application of a protective layer to a surface by fusion welding. It improves corrosion and wear resistance.
Physical-Chemical Mechanism of Action
In weld cladding, a metal or alloy is melted onto a base plate and cooled simultaneously. This forms a thin, homogeneous layer with the desired properties.
Metallurgical Relevance & Welding Risks
Wrong temperature or too fast cooling can lead to uneven deformation and lack of density in the protective layer. This can impair the effectiveness of the protection.
Workshop Practice & Action Guidelines
Use a molten filler that is compatible with the properties of the base plate. Keep the temperature constant and cool slowly to get a dense and even layer. The ideal cooling time is usually 10 to 20 seconds.
