Zinc-dust based welding primer

Zinc dust based weld primer protects sheets from corrosion and is suitable for welding. It forms a thin, moisture-resistant layer.

Physical-Chemical Mechanism of Action

Zinc dust weld primers contain zinc dust and other chemical additives that form a corrosion-resistant layer on the metal. This layer prevents the sheet from directly contacting air, thus preventing corrosion.

Metallurgical Relevance & Welding Risks

Using zinc dust primers is especially important when welding steels because they provide high corrosion resistance. If the primer is missing or too thin, the sheet can corrode quickly and the weld can become discolored. This can cause quality issues.

Workshop Practice & Instructions

Before welding the sheet, apply the zinc dust weld primer. Apply it in a thin layer (approx. 0.1 mm). The primer should be thoroughly dry, leaving a smooth, moisture-resistant surface. Under bad weather conditions or after long storage, extra drying may be required.
