Welding flux bulk density
Welding flux bulk weight gives the ratio of mass to volume of the flux. A high value means lighter flux, which leads to better filling of air gaps.
Physical-Chemical Mechanism of Action
The bulk weight of welding powder is the ratio of mass to volume of the granulated flux. A high bulk weight value means the powder is thinner and finer.
Metallurgical Relevance & Welding Risks
A high bulk weight improves filling of air spaces, which leads to better weld fusion. Too low a value can cause porosity and poor mechanical properties of the weld.
Workshop Practice & Action Guidelines
For optimal results, the bulk weight of the welding powder should be between 1.5 and 2.0. This can be achieved by selecting the right powder and correctly filling the flux hopper.
