Welding Fume Filtration Class
Welding fume filter class indicates the separation efficiency for fine dust and aerosols in welding fume, to filter health-hazardous particles.
Physical-Chemical Mechanism of Action
Welding fume contains fine dust and aerosols from metal particles, chemical compounds, and other stuff. Filter classes determine how efficient the filter is at catching these particles based on their size.
Metallurgical Relevance & Welding Risks
A poor filter can release hazardous stuff like nickel, arsenic, and hydrocarbons into the air. That can cause lung disease and other health problems. Also, fine particles can fly back onto tools and machines and mess up the welding.
Workshop Practice & Instructions
Use filter classes 1 or 2 for low fine dust loads, and classes 3 or 4 for higher loads. Keep an eye on regular maintenance and filter replacement. Keep the air moving in the welding area and make sure there's good ventilation.
