Welding fume filter class according to DIN EN ISO 15012
The DIN EN ISO 15012 defines filter classes for the separation efficiency of carcinogenic dusts in arc welding. There are three classes: A, B, and C. Class A is most suitable for the highest safety requirements.
Physical-Chemical Mechanism of Action
DIN EN ISO 15012 stipulates that fume extraction systems for arc welding must meet a minimum efficiency to filter out cancer-causing dusts like arsenic, cadmium, and nickel. Classes A, B, and C correspond to different capture efficiencies: Class A is the most effective.
Metallurgical Relevance & Welding Risks
If filtering isn't enough, cancer-causing dusts can get back into the work area and put workers at risk. This can lead to lung diseases like asbestosis and lung cancer.
Workshop Practice & Instructions
Pick filter classes according to how hazardous the welding process is. For high-hazard processes, go with Class A filters. Check filters regularly and replace them when needed to keep capture efficiency up.
