At-Source Welding Fume Extraction
Source extraction for welding fume captures and prevents pollutants right at the arc using extraction hoods or integrated torch extraction. Reduces contamination in the workshop air and protects against inhalation hazards.
Physical-Chemical Mechanism of Action
Source extraction captures gaseous and particulate emissions directly at the arc. This prevents pollutants from entering the environment and affecting air quality.
Metallurgical Relevance & Risks in Welding
Without extraction, toxic gases such as carbon monoxide and nitrogen dioxide, as well as fine particles, are produced. These can lead to lung conditions, skin damage, or chronic diseases. Additionally, air pollution can damage the welding equipment and shorten its lifespan.
Workshop Practice & Instructions
Use extraction hoods directly at the arc or integrated torch extraction. Make sure the suction flow is sufficient (at least 10 m³/min per kW of welding power). Regularly clean the filters and check the suction line pressure.
