Welding Capability Verification

A formal certification from the manufacturer that personnel, equipment, and test procedures are suitable for performing specific welding work.

Physical-Chemical Mechanism of Action

The welding procedure qualification record (WPQR) is a formal document that confirms the manufacturer's technical status and capabilities to perform specific welding operations. It contains information about personnel, the equipment used, and the inspection methods applied.

Metallurgical Relevance & Welding Risks

A missing or incorrectly filled-out qualification record can lead to issues, as it is proof that required qualifications and standards are not being met. This can lead to subpar weld results, cracks, or other defects.

Shop Practice & Action Instructions

To ensure the qualification record is correct, you should:

• Regularly check the manufacturer's documents for currency and completeness.

• Make sure personnel are properly qualified and have passed the required tests.

• Always use certified equipment and perform regular maintenance.
