Consumable Batch Testing

The welding consumable batch inspection checks a specific batch of filler materials chemically and mechanically to ensure it meets requirements.

Physical-Chemical Mechanism of Action

Batch testing involves tests such as chemical analysis to determine filler content and mechanical tests to check hardness and strength of the material. These tests ensure that the filler material retains its specific properties.

Metallurgical Relevance & Welding Risks

Incorrect filler contents can lead to undesirable microstructures, which can cause weak points or cracks in the weld joint. A lack of batch testing can therefore lead to dangerous defects in the final product.

Workshop Practice & Instructions

For proper batch testing, filler materials must be analyzed at an accredited laboratory before use. The tests should at least cover chemical composition, hardness, and strength. The results must be compared with the specific requirements of the weld joint.
