Fluctuating Stress

Pulsating stress is a periodic stress that fluctuates between a positive maximum value and zero, without a sign change. The stress ratio is usually between 0 and 1.

Physicochemical Mechanism of Action

Pulsating load is a periodic stress that fluctuates between a positive maximum value and zero, without changing sign. The stress ratio is usually in the range of 0 to 1.

Metallurgical Relevance & Risks in Welding

Pulsating load can lead to stress buildup, which can cause cracks or deformations. At high stress levels, the material can suddenly fracture or deform.

Workshop Practice & Action Instructions

To minimize pulsating load, ensure even cooling and avoid rapid temperature changes. For stress ranges above 0.5, additional tests should be carried out.
