Selective Laser Melting

Selective laser melting is an additive manufacturing process where metal powder is melted layer by layer with a focused laser beam. It enables the production of complex components with high mechanical properties.

Physicochemical Mechanism of Action

A focused laser beam heats the metal powder at a specific point so it is completely melted. The melt zone is very precise and controllable.

Metallurgical Relevance & Welding Risks

The precision allows the production of complex geometries with high mechanical properties. However, inaccurate focusing or too high a speed can lead to distortion or pores.

Workshop Practice & Instructions

Use high-quality metal powder and a stable laser beam. Set the melting temperature and speed precisely. Continuously monitor the process parameters to avoid distortion or pores.
