Protective Shielding Gas Mixture

A special gas mixture of argon, helium, and reactive gases to improve arc formation and droplet transfer in the weld.

Physical-Chemical Mechanism of Action

The safety shielding gas mixture contains argon and helium, which stabilize the surrounding medium and protect the arc. Reactive gases like CO2 or nitrogen promote droplet transfer and improve weld quality.

Metallurgical Relevance & Risks in Welding

An insufficient gas mixture can lead to irregular arc formation, poor droplet shapes, and increased spatter risk. This can cause porosity, loss of strength, and cracks in the weld.

Workshop Practice & Instructions

Use a gas mixture of 75% argon, 20% helium, and 5% CO2. Make sure the gas supply is continuously monitored and the mixture is kept constant. A correct gas mixture leads to a stable arc and optimal weld quality.
