Fiber Optic Visual Inspection

Light guides transmit light via fiber optics to the test object and carry the image back. They enable visual inspection in cramped, hot, or radiation-exposed environments.

Physical-Chemical Mechanism of Action

Light guides consist of thin glass fibers that reflect and transmit light. The image is captured at a receiver and can be displayed on a monitor.

Metallurgical Relevance & Risks in Welding

Visual inspection with a light guide is especially useful for checking weld quality in confined spaces or in radiation-exposed processes. Improper handling can degrade the image, affecting quality assessment.

Workshop Practice & Instructions

Use the light guide in confined or radiation-exposed areas. Make sure the receiver is correctly aligned and the image is clearly displayed on the monitor. Avoid mechanical stress on the guide to maintain its performance.
