Sol-Gel Coating
Application of nanoscale oxidic protective coatings from liquid precursors for temporary or permanent corrosion inhibition.
Sol-gel coatings are thin silicate protective layers that help against corrosion. When welding, you have to be careful: if the layer gets too hot, it burns off and can cause pores or cracks in the weld metal. Before welding, you should completely remove the coating in the weld area, otherwise you'll have trouble. A clean substrate is essential, and follow the manufacturer's processing instructions.
