Solidus Line

The solidus line indicates the temperature at which a material becomes completely solid. Below this line, the material is in a solid, crystalline state.

Physicochemical Mechanism of Action

The solidus line shows the temperature at which the last liquid substrate transforms into a solid crystal. This process is called solidification or crystallization.

Metallurgical Relevance & Welding Risks

If the weld cools below the solidus line, it can lead to incomplete solidification, resulting in fine grains and low toughness. This increases the susceptibility to cracking and wear.

Workshop Practice & Action Instructions

To ensure complete solidification, the weld should be cooled so that it stays above the solidus line. This can be achieved through optimized cooling flows and correct welding parameters.
