Crevice Pickling
Pickling in gaps removes residues in narrow spaces with limited circulation. Requires special aids or pressure flushing.
Physical-chemical mechanism of action
Crevisse pickling is a special form of pickling developed for removing weld roots and other residues in tight gaps. It works through chemical reactions where the pickling agent reacts with metal residues and dissolves or alters them.
Metallurgical relevance & risks in welding
In tight gaps, media can only circulate to a limited extent, which limits the effectiveness of pickling. Without special application aids or pressure flushing, the pickling agent cannot sufficiently penetrate the gap, and residues remain. This leads to weld cracks and reduces the strength of the joint.
Workshop practice & instructions
Use crevice pickling for tight, restricted-circulation gaps. Ensure that the pickling agent adequately penetrates the gap. This can be achieved through special application aids or pressure flushing. After pickling, check thoroughly for residues and, if necessary, carry out additional cleaning measures.
