Computed Radiography

Storage foil radiography is a digital X-ray method that uses photostimulable Phosphorus foils to store radiation and read it out with a laser.

Physical-Chemical Mechanism of Action

Storage Phosphorus radiography uses Phosphorus plates that are stimulated by X-ray exposure. This stimulation is stored in the plate and can later be read out with a laser to create a digital image.

Metallurgical Relevance & Risks in Welding

This technique is particularly useful for checking weld quality because it offers high resolution and low radiation exposure. However, incorrect laser settings can lead to inaccurate images, which impairs diagnosis.

Workshop Practice & Instructions

To perform storage Phosphorus radiography correctly, follow these steps:

1. Prepare the Phosphorus plates and position them at the area to be inspected.

2. Expose the plates with the X-ray system according to the manufacturer's specifications.

3. Use a laser to read out the stored signal and generate the digital image.

4. Check the image for quality and accuracy, and take further action if needed.
