Specific backing gas testing device
A measuring device for checking oxygen content in purge chambers before and during welding. It ensures a safe working environment through minimal oxygen concentration.
Physicochemical Mechanism of Action
The specific purge gas tester measures the residual oxygen content in a gas-filled space. It uses a sensor that measures oxygen concentration in ppm (parts per million).
Metallurgical Relevance & Risks in Welding
Too high oxygen content can oxidize the root shielding and damage the weld material. This can lead to cracks, distortion, or poor weld quality. Too low oxygen can compromise the safety of personnel in the area.
Workshop Practice & Instructions
Before and during root welding, regularly use the tester to ensure oxygen content is below 1 %. Take measurements at least every 30 minutes. If oxygen exceeds 1 %, pause welding and re-establish the gas-filled space.
