Spheroidized Carbide Globule
A thermally stabilized, spherical carbide form in steels produced by prolonged spheroidizing annealing to minimize hardness and maximize cold formability. It prevents cracking during forming processes.
Spheroidizing is a soft annealing process where the cementite in the structure clumps into spherical grains. This makes the steel soft and easy to cold form. When welding, you have to be careful that the heat-affected zone doesn't cool too quickly, otherwise hard martensite forms and the part becomes brittle. Let the component cool slowly after welding or anneal it soft deliberately, then it stays machinable.
