Spherodizing Annealing of Bearing Steel

Long-term annealing process for converting lamellar cementite structures into globular carbides to improve cold formability and machinability.

During spheroidizing annealing, the cementite in bearing steel is transformed from lamellar form into fine, spherical carbides. This makes the steel softer and easier to machine, which you mainly need for cold forming. If you skip the annealing or make it too short, the steel remains hard and can crack during welding or machining. You heat the part slowly and controlled to the right temperature and let it soak long enough until the transformation is complete. Set the exact times and temperatures according to the steel grade and part thickness.
