Anti-spatter agent

Anti-spatter agents are liquid release agents applied to the workpiece or gas nozzle to prevent weld spatter. They reduce spatter adhesion and improve cleanability.

Physicochemical mechanism of action

Anti-spatter agents contain chemical compounds that prevent contact between weld spatter and the workpiece surface. These release agents form a thin layer on the surface that prevents spatter from sticking.

Metallurgical relevance & welding risks

Without anti-spatter, spatter can stick to the workpiece surface, leading to uneven deformation or cracking. This can impair weld quality and alter the structure.

Workshop practice & actions

Apply anti-spatter before starting the weld to the affected workpieces or gas nozzle. Make sure the release agent is applied adequately and spread well on the surface. For certain materials like steel or aluminum, specific anti-spatter agents are required.
