Steel Shot Abrasive

Spherical abrasive made of high-strength, quenched and tempered steel used primarily for classic shot peening of large components. It is characterized by high density and kinetic energy transfer.

Steel balls are a classic blasting medium. The balls are shot onto the part with compressed air or a centrifugal wheel; the kinetic energy cleans or peens the surface. When welding, be careful: if you blast the balls too sharply or with too much pressure onto the material, it can deform the surface or drive in foreign matter that later causes problems during welding. Before welding, brush or grind the surface clean, then you won't have any surprises. The balls themselves wear out over time and shatter – then you sort out the dust and broken grains, otherwise the blasting pattern suffers.
