Static recrystallization
Renewal of the grain structure via nucleation and growth after cold working during subsequent heat treatment. It restores the original ductility of the strain-hardened material.
Cold-formed material has gained its strength through deformation. When welding, this zone gets hot, the structure recrystallizes, and the material becomes soft again at that spot. Directly next to the weld, a weak point forms that can give way under load. So you must keep the heat input as low as possible to keep the softening zone narrow. Work with small welds and don't let the part get too hot. If strength is critical, consider beforehand whether you can use a different material or a different design.
