Radiation Source Collimation

Radiation source collimation bundles gamma rays to improve image sharpness. Dense shielding materials are used for this.

Physikalisch-chemischer Wirkmechanismus

Collimation of radiation sources means geometrically shaping gamma rays using dense shielding materials. This narrows the radiation field and focuses energy into a tight angle.

Metallurgical Relevance & Welding Risks

In welding, collimation can be used to control or protect specific areas of the workpiece. But wrong collimation can cause unwanted radiation effects and damage the material.

Werkstattpraxis & Handlungsanweisungen

To get effective collimation, keep these points in mind:

• Use dense shielding materials like lead or titanium plates.

• Make sure the materials are set up correctly to focus the radiation to the desired area.

• Check the shielding regularly for damage and replace any worn parts.
