Leakage Field Sensors
Stray flux sensing uses magnetically sensitive sensors to measure magnetic stray fields at surfaces. This allows quantitative detection of cracks and defects.
Physical-Chemical Mechanism of Action
Magnetic-sensitive sensors such as Hall probes or GMR elements pick up magnetic stray fields caused by surface defects. These fields are proportional to the size and number of cracks.
Metallurgical Relevance & Welding Risks
Measuring stray fields helps detect hidden or microscopic cracks that are not visible. Missing or defective sensors can lead to inaccurate results and compromise component safety.
Workshop Practice & Procedures
Use high-sensitivity sensors and calibrate them regularly. Measure in quiet environments to minimize interference. If results look unusual, check the sensors and do a detailed inspection.
