Scattered Radiation Grid
A stray radiation grid consists of lead slats that filter deflected secondary radiation in radiographic testing and improve contrast, ensuring more precise imaging.
Physicochemical mechanism of action
The scatter grid consists of thin lead lamellae that block deflected secondary radiation and only let the desired primary radiation through. This improves contrast differences in the image.
Metallurgical relevance & risks in welding
During radiographic testing, unfiltered secondary radiation can cause disturbing background noise, impairing image quality. A scatter grid prevents these disturbances and enables more precise analysis of the weld.
Workshop practice & instructions
Use the scatter grid for every radiographic test to improve image quality. Place it directly in front of the film or digital detector. Make sure all lamellae are correctly aligned and there are no gaps between them.
