Throwing Power

Throwing power describes how well an electroplating bath deposits uniform coating thickness also in complex geometries. It is crucial for a homogeneous surface.

Physical-Chemical Mechanism of Action

A galvanic bath reacts with the metal to form a coating. Throwing power affects how quickly and uniformly this reaction occurs at different spots.

Metallurgical Relevance & Welding Risks

Low throwing power can lead to uneven coating thickness. This can cause corrosion damage, missing protection, or mechanical failure in the material.

Shop Practice & Action Items

To ensure good throwing power, choose a galvanic bath with high diffusion rate and appropriate temperature. Closely monitor process times and make sure the metal surface is clean.
