Support Structure Attachment
Support structure connection connects temporary supports to the component and the build plate to conduct process forces and heat and protect overhangs from deformation.
Physico-Chemical Mechanism of Action
Support structure attachment is a mechanical connection that transfers process forces and heat between temporary supports and the part. It prevents overhangs from being overly stressed or deformed during the forming process.
Metallurgical Relevance & Welding Risks
Incorrect attachment of supports can lead to uneven load distribution and excessive stresses, resulting in cracks or deformation in the part. Missing or poor attachment can also cause the workpiece to be formed incorrectly.
Workshop Practice & Instructions
Support structure attachment should be firm and stable. Use high-quality welding materials and ensure even load distribution. The attachment should be at least 2 mm thick to guarantee sufficient stress transfer. Check the integrity of the attachment before starting the forming process.
