Superduplex ferrite depletion
The undesirable loss of the ferrite fraction in the weld metal due to excessively slow cooling or high heat input, negatively affecting mechanical properties.
When welding superduplex, be careful not to put too much heat in. If the material cools too slowly, the structure flips and you lose ferrite, it becomes hard and crack-sensitive. You have to keep heat input low and ensure fast cooling, then the ferrite-austenite ratio in the weld stays stable. With thick plates or high restraint, you may otherwise get toughness problems in the heat-affected zone.
