Superduplex Critical Pitting Temperature
The temperature limit above which super duplex steel becomes susceptible to pitting corrosion in a defined test medium.
Physical-Chemical Mechanism of Action
Superduplex steel contains high amounts of chromium and nickel. Under certain conditions, this steel can swell in a defined test medium (e.g., saltwater), leading to pitting corrosion.
Metallurgical Relevance & Welding Risks
If the temperature during welding exceeds this limit, the steel can become susceptible to corrosion processes. This can lead to cracking and loss of mechanical properties.
Workshop Practice & Instructions
Ensure that the welding temperature does not exceed the defined temperature limit for superduplex steel. If necessary, use protective agents or adjust process parameters to control the temperature.
