Superduplex root passability

Describes the procedural behavior of ferritic-austenitic specialty materials to ensure a crack-free and phase-balanced initial weld layer under controlled heat input.

Superduplex root passability means the first layer must flow cleanly and bond well with the base material without cracking or tipping the microstructure balance. If you put too much heat in or go too slow, the structure transforms and you get brittle phases – the part is scrap. So watch out, keep the heat in check and pull the layer through quickly. The root must fuse cleanly, then it will withstand the load.
