Superalloy

A high-performance nickel-, cobalt-, or iron-based alloy that retains exceptional mechanical strength and corrosion resistance at elevated temperatures. It is widely used in gas turbines and jet engines.

Superalloys are high-strength materials based on nickel, cobalt, or iron with additions like aluminum or titanium. These make the material heat-resistant and corrosion-proof, but tricky when welding: the alloy reacts sensitively to incorrect heat input, which can otherwise lead to cracks or precipitations. You have to prepare the parts cleanly, work with suitable filler material, and keep the heat well under control – preferably with TIG or plasma. Too much heat or a wrong shielding gas mix ruins the structure, so stick to the manufacturer's specifications.
