Tandem Welding Process
A high-performance welding process utilizing two electrically isolated wire electrodes in a single weld pool to significantly increase travel speed.
Tandem welding means: two wire electrodes work in one weld pool, but each wire has its own welding torch and its own power source. They are arranged offset, one leads, the other follows behind. This gives you a higher deposition rate and you can travel faster without the pool running away. You have to coordinate the two arcs cleanly. If they interfere with each other, the pool becomes restless and you get spatter or lack of fusion. The trailing wire smooths the weld and fills it cleanly. Make sure the distance between the torches is right, then the weld stays calm and has a good appearance.
